From a diverse upbringing and a varied career, Sterling understands that creating unique forms requires curious approaches and exploring unconventional paths. Born in Australia and raised in the UK, Sterling is a self-taught multidisciplinary designer and fabricator. His practice currently resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada where his main focus is innovation in lighting design by leveraging the delicate relationship of natural materials with modern precision machinery to create new captivating designs.
Inspired by his deep knowledge of hardwood timber, polymer and glass, Sterling seamlessly integrates Contemporary and Bauhaus design principles into his work. This combination of knowledge and philosophy creates products with original design and honest fabrication where the authentic use of materials creates the richness in minimalist design.
